Data Breaches Are More Common in the Hospitality Industry Than You Would Think

While cybersecurity has been a big issue over the last few years, some companies overlook their cybersecurity due to thinking they aren't the targets of such things. Let's take a look at one industry that often does ignore their cybersecurity, Hospitality. While it may not seem like an industry with data that is worth stealing to most people, that couldn't be further from the truth. The hospitality industry was the sector with the 4th most cyber attacks and data security incidents last year.

In 2017 businesses in hospitality, retail, and restaurants made up 13% of cyber attacks; that's just 3% lower than the finance and insurance industry. That percentage is made up of businesses like the Hilton, Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago, Galt House Hotel, and several others that had data breaches. Those incidents for those companies led to data, like payment card information, for many of their customers being compromised. This past year was no different as the Radisson Hotel Group had the security of their rewards site breached. While in Radisson's case they claim no passwords or financial information was exposed, that doesn't account for clients emails, addresses, and even names. That data potentially opens up those customers to being targets to phishing emails or even worse schemes.

Why are we talking about all of that? To help raise awareness of the fact that everyone needs to protect themselves from cyber threats, with services like our Managed Security Services. One major part of our cybersecurity service is that we run a threat detection on your systems to see what can be improved. The information we gain from that can tell us if your firewall needs to be enhanced or if better antivirus software is needed. We also do a network analysis on top of that to mitigate as much risk as possible for your business. These are all done with minimal effort on your part and only takes less than a month for all of it. When all is said and done, we collaborate with you on what needs improvements and offer ideas on how to do it. We even offer security awareness training for your employees as part of the security service, to make sure your company has as much protection as it should.

Don't think that just because you're in a certain kind of industry, that you don't need to worry about cybersecurity. Instead, contact i-NETT to get the protection you need because you can't afford what happens if you do have your data breached.
